Sasha Lazard

Sasha Lazard is rapidly becoming recognized as one of the most innovative and extraordinary talents on the international music scene. Together with producer Frank Fitzpatrick and DJ Mark Raskin, she pioneered an exciting new musical fusion of classical art songs, Russian folk tunes and opera arias with contemporary electronic beats. Even before signing with Higher Octave/EMI the alluring siren soared beyond her classical roots to charm both classical devotees and dance-club audiences alike.

An accomplished soprano, Sasha received her vocal training at the esteemed San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She toured California, Italy, and Austria with prestigious chamber groups and festivals, and has performed in some of the world's most distinguished operas. She was 'Cinderella' in Rossini's La Cenerentola, 'Cherubino' in Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro, and the original 'Diana' in Carnegie Hall's production of The Goddess of the Hunt.

Sasha's youth was spent in New York City and Paris. Growing up in such cosmopolitan cities, she was exposed to the art culture early in life - she also developed an appreciation for the sensuality of the downtown club sound. The alluring siren possessed an edgy sophistication and an artist's desire for freedom. Although she had established a career as a classical performer at a young age, she eventually rebelled against the constraints of the tight-laced opera scene.

In the late '90's, Sasha began a collaboration with pop producer and DJ Mark Raskin and electronic cellist Michael Kott. Together, the team created an entirely new sound by combining elements from the classical and electronic worlds - Sasha's performance was redefined. She unveiled her new sound at top venues in New York (Don Hill's, Life, Joe's Pub) and Los Angeles (Luna Park, Moomba). This material was showcased for over 8,000 people in Europe's largest nightclub, Club Privilege (Ibiza, Spain).

The vocalist received overwhelming acclaim from U.S. and European club audiences and word of mouth spread quickly. She was soon asked to record the theme song to Miramax Films international box office phenomenon, Princess Mononoke, in 1999 and the critically acclaimed Holy Smoke, starring Kate Winslet and Harvey Keitel.

Most recently, Sasha performed at MaxMara's Sportmax celebration during Fashion Week. In June, she donated her time to perform at amfAR's annual "Boathouse Rocks" benefit, she performed at Ferragamo's benefit for the Naked Angels Theater Company, and gave an after-hours concert at Exit in New York City. During the 2002 Winter Music Conference in Miami, Sasha sang at The Delano Hotel, and has also performed at benefits with New York luminaries Sandra Bernhard and Joey Arias, and was a featured soloist in the 2001 Columbus Day Parade in New York City. Also in 2001, Sasha performed for Ian Schrager's New Year's Eve party at the Delano Hotel in Miami. Anand Jon - the celebrated designer - invited her to sing on the runway for his Spring 2000 fashion show in New York City.

Sasha Lazard's eagerly awaited debut album, The Myth of Red, was released May 7, 2002 on Higher Octave Music//EMI. The album embraces the mystique and allure of the color that depicts passion, rebellion, love, anger, the feminine, and the ferocious. The indefinable style and sound of the album is complemented by the guest appearances of DJ Spooky and Lily Hayden while Delirium, Joey Moskowitz, and Dan Martinez contribute remixes for the album
