Joanne Elizabeth grew tired of people not being able to pronounce or spell her name. Since Matt Engel began playing a greater role in the evolution of her songs, she decided they needed a new band name that included them both. And so Remote Impact was born...
Remote: far away in place or time; not close in relationship or connection
Impact: a collision; the force exerted by the influence of new ideas
About their band name, Joanne says, "I like the idea that a butterfly could trigger a hurricane. Everything is at least remotely connected. Maybe I just like to believe that what we do matters a lot more than people think it does."
Vocalist/keyboardist Joanne Engel and guitarist/bassist Matt Engel have been making music together for years. During some songs, Joanne captivates her audience with only her powerful voice and keyboard playing. On other songs, Matt joins her with his guitar, bass, or djembe. Their sound has been compared to the likes of Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan, but is still definitely their own. They are currently touring to promote their "Butterfly EP" and recording their debut album.
