Poe Poe

She was born Annie Danielewski, but when she went to a costume party dressed as the Plague from a book called "The Red Mask of Death" by Edgar Allen Poe, she won her nickname.

Originally from New York City, she moved around frequently with her parents -- a director and an actress -- but returned to New York at the age of 16 when they divorced. Poe enrolled at Princeton, and played in a band during her time there.

Signed to Atlantic in 1994, she recorded an album with several producers and co-writers and released Hello the following year. - from All Music.com

"There's definitely something contagious about her music, a sample-rich amalgam of hip-hop, rock, and jazz. With a haunting voice that was influenced, she says, "as much by Black Flag as by Billy Holiday," the L.A.-based musician infects Hello with such momentum that it just begs to be moved to." - in a review by Stephen Greco for Interview Magazine.
