PJ Harvey PJ Harvey

Of the many groundbreaking female songwriters who rose to prominence in the early '90s, none has challenged herself musically more than Polly Harvey. Over the course of five albums and several side projects, Harvey's potent blend of sexuality and spirituality has elicited comparisons to such icons as Patti Smith, but in truth Harvey is one of rock's true originals. Reclusive and retiring by nature, Harvey nonetheless often imbues her songs with brazen sexual imagery, and sings them in a voice steeped in the power of American blues.

Polly Jean Harvey was born Oct. 9, 1969, in the town of Yeovil, located in the county of Somerset. She was raised in Dorset, a county in the southwest of England.

Rumor has it that PJ Harvey went back into the studio in March 2000 to record an album set for release this fall.
