Mook (a.k.a. Jill Farrar) is a songwriter and classically trained musician from Sheffield who began her ventures in music with childhood piano lessons and playing the oboe in wind bands and orchestras. Surprisingly it was the oboe that led her discover rock n roll when she was asked to join a local indie band looking to broaden their sound. Mook went on to write songs for the band (who split up after a few years) and in January 2001 formed a new band 'The Bedford Incident' with a songwriting partner from the previous group.
After writing and recording an album for 'The Bedford Incident' Mook felt the time was right to record some of her own material. Thus debut LP Everything That You Are was born and later released on Pod (the subsidiary label of High Rise Records,) now available through MP3.com and her website.
Mook wrote, performed and produced 'Everything That You Are' herself at home. The album consists of 12 dream pop/folk songs, which blend acoustic guitar, drums, bass and keyboards together with orchestral instrumentation. Mook's vocals are gentle and soothing and complemented by a mixture of swirling synths, delicate strings and woodwind.
She takes her inspiration from her own thoughts and the melodies that frequently pop into her head, and has had her sound likened to songwriters such as Kathryn Williams, Dido, and the band Belle & Sebastian.
Mook is currently recording her second album and rehearsing for gigs.
