Katie Marie

Katie is from the Torbay area, (Devon, UK). It all started at 6 years old when she went round to her Grandparents house after they had purchased a Pianola from a local auction house - she was round there nearly every day from that point on writing songs and playing this old piano. Soon after that she began having lessons from a teacher at her school. But after being made to do grade after grade she soon found she wasn't getting what she wanted from her playing, so at 12 she turned to the guitar for some inspiration. She taught herself all the chord positions she would need to get started, and began writing some more and jamming with friends on a regular basis.

Then at 14 she began attending a jam night in a local pub in Torquay where she got up and sang a few covers and one or two of her newly written songs, one of them being Have My Love. Many great musicians use to attend the evening, most of them being drummers and Katie was inspired by their playing and wanted to learn the way! She managed to get together a snare, kick drum, hi hat and crash and began learning some grooves. By the time she was 16 she ended up joining a local band and gigging around the area. Then when she turned 17 the bass player of the band left, and the band could find another drummer but not a bassist - so they asked Kate if she was up for playing some bass, reluctantly at the time she agreed - but since then has never regretted the move! By the time she was 18 she was regularly gigging locally and around the UK with many different bands playing varying styles of music.
