Joanne Elizabeth started out as a solo artist at age 14, singing and playing piano at every event she could find in her hometown of Federal Way, WA.
A year later, she was shown the joy of collaboration by guitarist Matt Engel. They fell in love with each other and the dream of infiltrating the music industry.
For the next few years, they played with drummer Dylan Dearinger in the basement of a crappy (but lovable) house in West Seattle. These practice sessions led to the recording of "So Pretty," their demo CD.
Joanne went off to The Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA, and Dylan moved out of state. Without a drummer, and without enough recording experience to start working on their album of originals, they decided to record an album of cover songs in 2002 to give away as a promotional CD.
After Joanne graduated in 2003, the couple moved to Tacoma, WA and got married.
Frustrated by how much time had passed since the release of their demo, they recorded acoustic versions of 3 songs from the album. The songs were released as a promo CD later that year, to give patient fans a few new songs to listen to while waiting for the album.
Matt is on schedule to graduate from Evergreen in June, and recording of the album has finally begun. They plan to finish and release it before the end of this year.
