Greta Gertler
Greta Gertler is an Australian singer-songwriter who plays the piano and Wurlitzer. She brings together pop, classical, jazz and other musical elements in her songs. Her debut album, "The Baby That Brought Bad Weather" was written and recorded during her first three years in New York. Headliner Magazine (Radio City Music Hall) call it a "sonic revelation and lyrical treat". Since its independent release in May 2003, "The Baby" has been featured on radio stations WFUV, WFMU, WNYC, WXPN and other stations around the US.
You can often catch Greta and her band performing in New York at clubs such as Joe's Pub, The Living Room, Southpaw and Fez, and she plans to tour Australia, Europe and the US throughout 2004. Vin Scelsa (WFUV) writes: "Her debut album, The Baby That Brought Bad Weather (self released), is one of those hoped for revelations that all too infrequently emerge from the never-ending pile of new releases. From Kirsty MacColl-ish pop to blue jazz smoke-filled urban ballads of love and loss, Greta promises to be an exciting fixture on the New York music scene."
