Diesel

It was never a question of whether or not to sing. It was a question of how, what, why, and from where. Music opened her eyes about the same time as her older sisters moved from source-of-aggravation to awesome-friend-very-cool-person. As a child, very little music other than church hymns and an occasional “Christian-Rock-Amy-Grant” album had entered Diesel’s experience. By the time she was 15 yrs. old, Diesel sat on the floor of the apartment she shared with her newly-divorced dad and poured through the songs, lyrics, and experiences of Suzanne Vega’s “Solitude Standing”, completely losing herself in Vega’s mysterious world of trials, sorrow, strength, and the ultimate comfort, survival. “She wrapped me in her world, and in her experiences, without raising her voice above a whisper. It was like this amazing but almost silent power.”

Carrying this newfound spirit and confidence, Diesel followed her intuition to the island of Maui, where she found a world of artists, musicians, singers, songwriters. With Maui’s nurturing atmosphere, she began searching for musicians, songwriters, and a producer to form a team with an eye on recording fresh, new music. While working with a variety of local bands & artists, Diesel developed an attachment to recording studios, and spent as much time as she could recording demo after demo, sometimes experimenting with new songwriters, and eventually recording a three-song demo, with two of her original songs and a full band.

In late spring of 1997, Diesel’s demo tape of 3 songs came to the attention of record producer Josh Whitmore. “It was amazing, really,” says Josh. “I was in my office around 1:00 in the morning, and I thought I had better listen to this tape, because this Diesel person had called back a couple of times, and written and e-mailed, and wanted to know my opinion. So I put on the demo, and halfway through the first song I played, I fell out of my chair! Then I heard a song she wrote called “Never Enough”, and I think my life changed.”

Josh and Diesel have since co-written several songs and released Diesel’s debut album, “I’ll Be Ready In A Minute...” They are currently working on the release of Diesel’s sophomore album, “Big Bad World”. Full of biographical lyrics, this album reveals simple and beautiful insights about people, perseverance, and the passion for life. While never hesitating to sing a heartbreak song, her music displays an underlying current of hope and optimism for men and women of all ages.
