It all started in the fall of 2001...
Your Mom SRO had been working on what would have been their third album when the band decided to call it quits. Very quickly, a new concept came forward and The Coma Savants came into being.
The first order of business was to head to Broken Horsey Studio with Ed Reardon and Jenny Hanson. Over the course of 5 days, The Savants recorded all the basic tracks for what would become their debut, Coma Savant.
The album, released on Uvulittle Records in April of 2002, showcases the group's irrepressible creativity and liberal interpretation of "music" + "performance."
Stephanie Rearick, the group's creative mastermind, is a solo artist in her own right. An accomplished pianist, Rearick incorporates classical and jazz elements into her off-kilter pop/rock writing. A touch of cabaret and a healthy dose of experimentation put Rearick in a class of her own.
Jon Hain, guitarist has been working with Rearick since 1993 when they first formed Your Mom (which later became Your Mom SRO.) His style blends lush soundscapes with sharply angular forms.
Joey Zarda got involved with Your Mom SRO in 1997. Originally a guitarist, Joey took up bass for the band. Joey is also a talented vocalist and often sings back-up to Stephanie. A skillful writer, he has contributed his own music to the band and helps with arrangements. He also drives the band van.
Jason Socha is The Coma Savants' newest member. Joining after seeing a 'drummer wanted' poster in the summer of 1998, Socha quickly became an institution. His dedication to the beat is just short of fanatical.
