Cesca Waterfield
Americana songwriter and vocalist Cesca Waterfield grew up rooted in music -
and soybeans. Her southern Alabama / rural Virginia childhood meant she lived everyday outside,
tearing through pinewoods, mucking through swamps, and walking fields of soybeans.
Cesca's parents were amateur musicians. Their huge record collection
held blues, bluegrass, classic country, Mexicana, folk, rock and roll, and
classical.
A year into her after-school job, Cesca applied for a gas credit card. A month later, she stared in shock at the
first statement. After a severe lecture, her father made her a deal: for every song she wrote, he would pay ten dollars
toward her balance. "That did it. He broke off the deal soon after, but I was hooked."
The next few years found Cesca starring in touring college musicals and making open mics near her college in North Carolina. High achievement in college cleared the way to pursue her music with greater focus. "I did well and was very involved in college to prove I could. Music was never second."
