Alysson Light

In an era when young music artists are manufactured by corporate conglomerates for political correctness to sell vapid pop, there is one who is very different. The music she writes is more like Tori Amos plays Joni Mitchell meets Carole King, than Hanson, or "Miss Spears". She dresses in bell-bottoms and loves lava lamps, and love beads. She is as at home with advanced calculus and AP courses as with CDs and MP3s.

At the age of 17, Alysson Light is a prodigious singer/songwriter. She started piano at age 9, cello at 12, and guitar recently. Her first musical mentor (beginning at age 5) was her grandmother, a piano teacher and graduate of Juliard, and former singer with the famous choral director, Robert Shaw. Her most popular songs include "Liquid Eyes" and "Minna", both with mysterious, poetic imagery that is supported by an unusual musical backdrops. Alysson's vocal style is amazingly mature, and the songs move the listener with her emotions and dynamics. Her new CD is currently being recorded in a local studio, and is scheduled for release in 2002.
