Day Seven: I was in Copenhagen, Denmark with my husband on his business trip in 2000. We went into a small record shop to see what they had. They had a rare pressing of Jeff Buckley’s Grace so I snapped that up. Then I think I also got a Radiohead one. Then for some reason this one popped up in my view. I looked at it and saw she was Danish but performed in English, and she was cute so I grabbed it. "Ancient Pleasures" by Marie Frank.
When I brought my purchases up to the cashier he held up this one and said, “This one is a gift, right?” When I said no, he said, “I don’t think you’re going to like this one, it’s very produced and poppy”
Little did he know I do like that as well as the more artistic stuff. I ended up loving this record and Marie Frank and bought most of her other albums as they came out. She was my gateway into Scandinavian pop, which I am still sort of obsessed with.
