Dancer In The Dark
Starring Björk
A stir in Cannes
Icelandic pop diva Björk stirred talk Wednesday in Cannes, France, when she didn't
show up for the news conference following the film-festival screening for "Dancer in
the Dark," in which she plays Selma, a Czech immigrant working in a factory in the
rural United States.
Rumors of tantrums and personality clashes on the set were confirmed, tersely by
Danish film director Lars von Trier and graciously by the always-regal Catherine
Deneuve, who starred alongside Björk.
The 34-year-old singer, who also wrote the music for the film, "is not acting
anything in this film," the director said. "She is feeling everything, which is
very hard on her and very hard on everyone. It's like being with a dying person."
