 "The Witch's Daggers"
by Veronica Lipgloss and The Evil Eyes

a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

The new wave-inspired group has an exceptional vocalist in Rhani Lee Remedies. Their angular arty music seems to belong to a different era. But they are of and for today.

"Mars" sees the collision of Remedies witchy voice and James Brooks Caperton's saxophone at its most dissonant. It's half Lora Logic of X-ray spex and half James Chance with an eye on the dancefloor.

"Strip Mall Glass" is equally energized, the mood of a frantic dance underpinned with a strong melody. Remedies seems to channel a million punk singers past and present, from Karen O's yelps to Ari Up's caterwauls.

"Rats" martial drumming and bleak mood is strangely compelling. Remedies shines here as on other tracks, with an unearthly wail.

"Bleed to the Beat" is a strong exercise in rhythm and sees the band's eerie gifts at their best. It's not easy listening by any means, but it should appeal to the adventurous.
