 "Whiskey was the Medicine"
by Paige

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

I may have been influenced by the title, but this record has kind of a smoky boozy feeling. It's dirty and dirgy. It's about as far removed from happy-go-lucky pop as you can get.

The music is reminiscent of Ani DiFranco in her funky stage, but not as upbeat, and without all the horns. This is especially true on the title track, "Whiskey Was The Medicine".

Pagie's voice is sultry and tough. It has a female Tom Wait's quality.

The lyrics are well written and speak of lies and pain.

I enjoy the use of the mild vocal distortion on track one.

I think "Last Call" is my favorite. But I also like "These Axes"…well, actually I like every song on here.

This is, indeed a drinkin album. Ani DiFranco with a substance abuse problem. But I mean that in the best way possible. This is a very likeable record.

Pour some Jack and put this CD on and just try not to rest your head on the bar.
