This is a very bluesy CD and anyone who knows me (or has read too many of my reviews) knows this is not my bag, so read that with this in mind. I can still see that Patricia Lawrence and her band are is talented even if it's not something I would listen to by choice.
I actually found myself liking this more, the more I listened to it. I felt like I was in a car on a highway playing a part in a movie. You know, the one about the girl who moved out of her hometown and ends up taking a waitressing job at a truck stop…that kind of film. I normally can't stand the steel guitar "swooping thing", but I did find myself getting into it.
Standouts for me are "Big Man" (where the steel guitar plays a big part) and "Lament" which is haunting and pretty and sad.
If you like slow, smoky, bluesy, county then this is for you. Hell, it might be for you even if you don't.
