a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
I reviewed Erin McKeown's previous release, Grand back in 2004 and I loved it. I still do. I've put some of those songs on many a mix CD to sing along to in my car. It's a deserted island CD for sure.
So this record had a lot to live up to. Chances were I was not going to like it as much. Upon the first listen this was true. I was a tad disappointed. But I soldiered on and listened again and again. I'm now on about my 5th spin and I am really enjoying it.
The songs don't grab me as sturdily as those on "Grand" did and continue to do. But they're very good.
"We Are More" has got a great chug-chug rhythm that makes me feel like I'm riding on a train.
"White City" is also very catchy.
The record closes with "You Were Right About Everything" which is lovely.
If you like Erin McKeown's style you'll enjoy this CD.
