a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
Lori Cullen follows her solo debut and an appealing jazz record with this new record. She writes beautiful songs and sings like an earthy angel. Shades of Joni
Mitchell and Jane Siberry dart through this album.
"Railroad" is a hushed song with train noises. Cullen's emotive singing flows easily here.
The folksy "Petals" is delightful.
"Wide Eyed and Sleepy" is an impressionistic song, Cullen's gorgeous voice is nicely served by the jazzy textures of the song.
The whimsical "Hot Dog Day" recalls a happy childhood in a moving way.
The traditional "In the Gloaming" gets a haunting reading.
"Uneven Hill" is a progress from Cullen's earlier work. Since that was strong this is quite an accomplishment. This great album belongs in the collection of anyone who likes their music daring.
