Tarnish and Undress by Breech

Breech is lead by Missy Gibson. She has a fantastic voice. It reminds me of someone but I can't place it.

I love that they financed their previous album by a series of bake sales.

There's something about this band that sounds kind of 80s, especially Saboteur.

One of my favorites is Schubert Waltz. The lyrics are great and the melody is intricate and interesting. Plus she gets to growl. I want to sing (snarl) along. It reminds me of Jill Tracy or a milder Dresden Dolls. Fabulous song!

I have realized that I really love songs that are in ¾ time (i.e. waltzes). So I like that Breech has included two here. Of course, I also like Sweet One (Stalkers Waltz). It's got some great lyrics as well as fabulous melody:

"I feel your teeth in my mattress." And later, "I can't hear you with that gag in your mouth." Now you don't hear that in love songs everyday. Such strange lyrics set to a happy melody. Creepy. Fantastic.

I enjoy this record a lot. It's one that will go into my personal rotation for sure.

Missy Gibson and her band are back, with a stunning new album.

The rockin’ sounds of opener “Grounded” are the band at their solid best.   Gibson has a strong, raspy voice and uses it well.

“Unrequited” is a high-charged song that really shows the bands gifts. Dave Philips underscores the intensity on pedal steel and guitarist Mike Flanagan adds strong backing vocals.

“Safe Here” is a nice, jazzy diversion with Gibson playing the chanteuse well.

“Sweet One”(Stalker Waltz) uses barbed words against a lovely backdrop. Such a contrast makes for a good song.

Breech has made a great album.
