a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
My first reaction was 80s! Though they do have a bit of an 80s new wave sensibility, there's more current sounds going on her as well. In fact, there's a lot going on here.
De novo is a tad harder than what I've been hearing lately. The sound is a bit like Evanescence at times only in that it's harder rock with a lovely melodic female vocal. That lead voice belongs to Serene Arena and it's hauntingly gorgeous. On some tracks the instrumentation even reminds me of old Sarah McLachlan. Nice stuff indeed.
This is a quality CD, from the songwriting with these powerful lyrics to the professional production. De novo is a class act. If you like your rock with an edge…a beautiful one, you need to check out "A Story for All Times".
Stand out songs: For the slow and pretty: "Crushed", "Driving On" for the loud and raucous: "To the Deceased" and "Nancy".
