Cabaret band Alacartoona have put out a sweet debut album. The singer and guitarist Ruby Falls handles herself impressively and the band follow her lead.
The beautiful ballad "Turn Away" sees the band at their most theatrical and appealing as they sing of love lost. The playful "Fluff and Tickle" wouldn't sound out of place in the musical "Chicago". The dreamy "Seems for Days" is one of the bands strongest moments. Their use of the accordion adds a special dimension to their sound. "Black and blue Heart" lives up to its title as Falls sings of inflicting hurt on a loved one.
The closing "Die laughing" further underscores the bands theatrical appeal and proves a suitable finale. "Songs from the Show" must be fun to hear live, but even on record it impresses.
