a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
Barbara Marsh and Ginny Clee are the Dear Janes. After
the critically acclaimed "No Skin" they were dropped
by a major label and came back with this album on
their own label.
They still sound lovely and have
penned ten emotionally charged songs.
"Drunk on Hallelujahs" is a fine example of their modern folk
sound, with sweet vocal harmonies and an able musical
backing. "Ship" was written with the great Syd Straw,
it's a slow, hopeful song. The lead vocal is
wonderfully expressive. It.s a little like the Indigo
Girls.
"Too Much Girl" is a tough, spirited song and "Fix"
sweetly chimes "I get a fix out of you".
"Skinning" is more electronic sounding than anything
else on the record and it.s a welcome diversion.
The Dear Janes have returned, make a room for them in
your heart and your record collection.
