Salvation Circus by Lynn Keller "Salvation Circus"
by Lynn Keller

a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Lynn Keller's music is an invigorating blend of influences. She often dwells on spiritual themes, but also makes danceable grooves.

Opener "Aphrodite" is a slinky disco song. It should get most dance floors moving.

"Outaluv" is a Madonna-ish strident song. Keller sings better than the Material Girl though. She is more like Grace Jones, all haughty and regal.

"Loose Ring" is a gospel-tinged beauty. Keller's voice takes on a new warmth as she sings of lost love. The folk stylings of "Lady Unique" suit her well too.

The cover of Velvet Underground's "Venus in Furs" replaces Reed's jaded tones with an impassioned take on this tale of bondage. "Taste the whip in love not given lightly" indeed. Keller makes a convincing dominatrix.

"Salvation Circus" is both worldly and spiritual and that's what makes it so special.
