a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
Suzy Callahan's CDs have been reviewed here on Collected Sounds before but not by me. Anna Maria reviewed Callahan's 2005 release, "Happier Than Everybody Else" back in April of that year and like it quite a bit.
The most noticeable thing about this record is Suzy's voice. It's very pretty, for lack of a better word. It's breathy, sweet and sounds great harmonizing with itself. There are times when it seems a hair off the note (not enough to call it "pitchy", dog). But that's not common. Usually it's right on.
"I'm the Teacher" is probably the stand out song here. It really makes you perk up and listen. Very catchy melody yet it's interesting and not obvious. It's a great happy sounding folk song.
"Little Duck" has some very nice harmonization as well as a great melody.
I also like "College Girl".
Since I never heard Suzy's last release, I can't compare it to this. But this is a nice recording, and one I'm sure I'll keep listening to well after this review is posted.
