a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
Ashely MacIsaac's gone from making modern folk to this rather different sort of a record.
The heavy guitars of "Bitch" and "Just Because" betray a new sense of freedom.
"Because You Love Me" sees him melodically scorn an ex. It's a theme he returns to on this album, usually with some aggression. He's got a way with a tune that prevents it from being mere whining.
"Hey Alright" is an Iggy-esque demonstration of lust that's pretty persuasive.
"Nights wasted Away" is poppier, but no less acidic lyrically.
"Sick of Rock'n'roll" starts out with a dedication to female rockers. Oh yeah. Then he lambastes the sorry state of current rock.
This seems like a radical departure for MacIsaac, but he's more than capable of handling this style too.
