Pieces by Loni Pont "Pieces"
by Loni Pont

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

Loni Pont's second CD, Pieces" is a great one. Her voice sometimes has a tremble-y (but controlled) quality to it, is very pleasant and matches the music nicely. Her vocal style is similar to artists, Martina Sorbara and Stephanie Wright. She also plays the piano, though on this recording she leaves that task to someone else. She did write all the songs on the CD.

On"Lyla" her voice is quite reminiscent of Sorbara's on this track and the song on the whole, is very nice.

My favorite track is "Empty" It is gorgeous. Makes use of some dissonant chords, which gives it a bit of a haunting quality. This song could be a hit if someone would put it on the radio.

"Poison" is one of the saddest songs I've heard in awhile.

Everyday gets longer then the one before
I never ever thought I'd feel like giving up
But this poison in my body has left me with this pain
Will I ever see tomorrow
and will I ever feel the same again

Whew! Doesn't get more depressed than that, now does it? In fact, looking again at all the lyrics, this whole CD has a bit of a melancholy feel to it. Most of the songs are about saying good bye, wanting something (or someone) very badly, or starting over. But it's not a downer. It's just really beautiful.

If piano-driven ballad pop with great vocals and clever songwriting is your cup o' Chamomile "Pieces" will do the trick.
