 Outtasite

a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Actress and singer Alice Ripley fronts the eponymous group with consummate élan. She's made a solo record and an ep before this new release.

The many styles come together nicely. It starts out rockingly and soon the brilliant title track arrives with its poppy chorus and Ripley's powerhouse vocals.

"Charismatic" is a jazzy song to knock recent Christina Aguliera's socks off. It sounds more authentically seedy and she sings in a less mannered way. The horn parts are utterly strong.

The glam rock of "Arthur" is equally well handled and the vocals swoon like Debbie Harry's could.

"Sonny" is marvelous, slightly ominous in its lyrics and fun musically.

Ripley's record is a rare thing; an album where every track is good and they all sound different.
