 "Notes on Love"
by Petra Jean Phillipson

a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Petra Jean Phillipson once sang in the group The Free Association, and got some acclaim for that. Her solo debut sees her singing gorgeously haunting songs.

"I Want The impossible" sees her singing to a spooky backing. "I want to have a penis for a day" she muses.

"Independent Woman" is a skewed blues song that she handles well. Her vocal is tough and tender at once.

"Nothing If Not Writing Time" sees her evoking the softer side of P.J Harvey.

"Play Play" gives off a weird vibe. Phillipson has a ghostly presence and the guitar is cool.

"Into My Arms" is one of Nick Cave's finest songs and she does it justice.

"I don't believe in an interventionist God" is a great way to start a song if not terribly rock'n'roll. Phillipson sings the words sweetly and with feeling.

"Notes on Love" is a great debut.
