 "My Own Backyard"
by Ann Klein

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

When I saw Ann Klein's photos on the bio sheet, I thought she looked quite alternative in her red Leather jacket and trendy jeans and long dark hair. I wasn't thinking country at all. But country is what you get with "My Own Backyard" Well, OK not country, in the Shania way, but alt.country or "y'all-ternative" I would say with a good dose of bluegrass as well.

Though it's quite twangy, I like "Hank Williams". It's got a nice sound to it that is countryish, but also edgy. "You Can Be My Rainy Day" is my favorite track, I think. But I also like "Sad Song" quite honky-tonkish but cool.

Klein's voice is a great match for this genre. It's got a lilt that works very well with the music.

Seeing as she was once Joan Osborn's lead guitarist you know that she has got the talent and it really shows, especially on "All That I Missed". She has also played alongside other greats like Sara Lee, Ani DiFranco, Keri Noble, Kate Pierson (B-52s) and more.

If you enjoy alt.country with a honky-tonk edge, check out "My Own Backyard".
