Movin’ On
by Jen Porter

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

I'm not usually a fan of blues, but I am a fan of Jen Porter. I reviewed her record, Faces, back in 2002 and enjoyed that as well. This is also much more rock flavored and, well, stronger in many ways. She’s very good at what she does and this is another great release.

She has an amazingly powerful voice that goes great with these equally powerful songs. It’s got the perfect amount of vibrato and a touch of scratch and smoke that really lends to these songs.

I like that her instrument of choice is piano and she’s created some great songs to showcase her talent.

“Aaron’s Song” is a powerful ballad. Her vocals really shine here.

“Heaven to Me” is another stand out for me.

She also does cover of the Cure song, “Pictures of You”. Her version is quite mellow, and slow, a real contrast too much of the rest of the tracks here. On it, her voice almost sounds like Allison Crowe. It’s lovely.

If you’re looking for some powerful vocals and strong songwriting (and playing) check out Jen Porter’s latest.
