Rachelle Garniez and her Fortunate Few is an eclectic bunch of musicians. Their style is hard to pinpoint, but it's pleasant to hear. Garniez has one of those voices that suit most styles of music.
"Red Roses" is a fifties style ballad.
"Quality Star" is quirkier still and sees Garniez using her accordion in delightful fashion. Vocally she's letting lose impressively too.
"Luckyday" is a jazzy, cool number that echoes Rickie Lee Jones.
"January Wind" sounds like a classic song, but Garniez wrote it herself. It's got the familiar yet fresh feel of a future standard.
"Pearls and Swine" takes on Tom Waits whiskey-sodden modern cabaret. Garniez inhabits the tune with gusto.
"Luckyday" is a record I'll cherish for a long time to come.
