a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
Andrea Rosenthal records as Venus Mission, her new record is persuasive.
She's got a strong voice and her songs are powerful.
"Better not to know" is
a bluesy, utterly delightful song. Rosenthal gives it her all and captures
me from the first note.
"I Want You" sounds interestingly exotic, shades of
the too unknown Happy Rhodes creeping in. Rosenthal's lyrics are
intriguingly dark.
"I forgot to bring all my fury,
I forgot to bring all my
shame,
I forgot to bring my aimless misery"
she sings.
The title track is great as well. It's all airy atmospherics, like Peter
Gabriel used to use. The singing has a bit of Toni Childs deep-throated
power and Charles
"Swifty" Phillips adds a nice spoken word bit too.
"Too
Bad" has some "Dear Prudence" swirls and some nicely sarcastic lyrics.
"Too
bad you're a loser"
she sings sweetly. Her protagonist may still love the
guy.
This record won't disappoint anyone though. It's all quality.
