The Long Picnic Stephanie Rearick "The Long Picnic"
by Stephanie Rearick

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

"The Long Picnic" is one part classical piano, part odd pop.

The recording begins with a calming classical-type piece (instrumental). Then moves into "Not Another Minute" which has a jerky piano line and swooping vocals.

From then on you're never quite sure what turn it may take. But the following track, "Elegy" is a beautiful almost spooky tune (reminiscent of Jill Tracy's New Orleans style). Beautiful.

She returns to this style later on the recording on "The Man Who Stole Tomorrow" with it's intricate piano line and sometimes dissonant vocal line.

This is an interesting listen, and I mean that in the best way. Stephanie Rearick has a talent for writing complex songs and her voice and piano are a great match.
