I was interested to read Jeannette Kantzalis' bio, which seems to dwell on the fact that with all her hard work, she hasn't made it big. It is maybe not the best info to put right up front to prospective listeners. It certainly made me wonder 'what's wrong with her then?' But I listened and I've decided that what it is, for me anyway…her voice.

I like the songs; they're well written and interesting, even though this is not my favorite genre. But I just can't get used to her voice. It's sort of syrupy and swoopy and the music is more, I don't know, headstrong (for lack of a better word) than that.

She's on key (which is more than I can say for some submissions, really, you'd be shocked how many tone deaf people put out records). But there's something missing (or maybe something too much) for me. She gets real nasal in the upper and louder notes. I like the softer side of her though, as on "Deep Suburban Joy".

So I'll just talk about what I like. As I said, the songs are well written. Melodies are interesting and catchy. The songs are well played instrumentally and the production is top notch.

The whole look of the record is very professional; the photos are great, the packing is classy. I love her look, I wish her vocals matched the music as well as her look does. I don't mean tot be harsh, I feel bad for someone who has tried so hard. Perhaps I am the only reviewer who can't get into the voice. If that is the case, let's just chalk it up to 'I don't get it'. But if I'm not, it might be something to consider altering.

Note: I looked all over online for another review of this record to see if I was out of my mind and couldn't find one.
