"Johnnie Burton" by Johnnie Burton

The last few CDs I've reviewed have been a combination of folk, folk-rock, folk-pop and Americana. This is nothing like that.

Johnnie Burton has won my heart by using the "effenheimer" within the first 26 seconds of the first song. This is the definition of the kick ass record.

The opening tune, "Hello Lover" is a great way to start out the CD. It's energetic, loud, fun and indicative of what to expect from the rest of the songs.

She reminds me a little of Tracy Bonham, but she's more rock than Bonham.

The instrumentation is great. The songs are well written and immediately appealing and Johnnie has a great rock voice. It doesn't hurt that she's a hottie.

These songs remind me of when I was discovering this kind of rock, which started for me in the 80s. This is far from retro or derivative however. It's very fresh and real.

Stand out songs: Hello Lover, Slow, Ordinary Day
