Jen Bye "Jen Bye"
by Jen Bye

a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Jen Bye's first ep opens with the evocative track "Bloody Fingers". Here, her band play as if their lives depended on it and Bye spits out provocative words.

"Freckle Face Girl" sounds a bit like Alanis Morrissette, which is good.

"Dirty Secret" starts with calm, acoustic washes of guitar and piano and Bye's voice is in a softer register. It suits her fine too. The song picks up the pace a little and becomes truly memorable.

On one track Bye sings "too bad the rules just don't apply to me". Whatever rules Bye is challenging she is doing a fine job of it. This ep is a fine beginning.

I think the disc is excellent and extremely soulful & personal and not in your general way, I especially liked "drinks with jezebel" & "Bloody Fingers" it's rare that someone can pour out a their soul and capture it in the studio like Jen has done, I give it all the stars available!!!!!!!
