a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
The duo Mephisto Walz have been around awhile, honing their craft in the darkwave genre. Singer Christianna has the voice of a tempestuous siren and instrumentalist Bari-Bari plays well. Their new album is a treat.
"Our Flesh" is classic goth rock in the vein of Siouxsie but the swirling rhythm is modern.
"Before these Crimes" rests in a heavy guitar line and serpentine vocals.
"One less Day" evokes the ethereal sound of the Cocteau Twins and allows Christianna to sing in her sweetest way.
"Nightingale" uses a John Keats poem to create a thing of beauty. Christianna's melancholy vocals and the sad wail of the guitar lead to a classic song.
This is a splendid record in any genre.
