ICE-Piano Slightly Chilled
by Fiona Joy Hawkins

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

I reviewed Fiona Joy Hawkins' album, Angel Above My Piano recently and while that was simply pretty instrumental piano music, this is much more.

As the name implies, this is much more 'chill', it's more techno, ambient and well… chill out music.

Frosted View is a stand out for me. It actually makes me feel like I am taking a walk outside on a cold but sunny winter day somewhere out in the country, snow falling lightly, peacefully. Very nice.

This record seems more New Age than her previous one to me. Not that it's a bad thing, I am slowly coming around to New Age music as I get older (new…age…? Hmmmm) so I'm much more attracted to this than I would have been a few years ago. The genre is still not something I listen to other than when I am relaxing (read: sleeping) or reading, but I do like it more now.

Hawkins is a fantastic pianist and has a gift for writing interesting and appealing melodies.
