Horses and Burning Cars Kate Fenner "Horses and Burning Cars"
by Kate Fenner

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

So, is Kate Fenner gorgeous or what? The front cover is blurry but the photo on the back, wow. Lucky for us, her voice and style is as captivating as her face.

This CD is filled is sultry, clear, rich and lush sounds. I really don't know of anyone who has similar vocals except maybe Johnette Napolitano (of Concrete Blonde) and that is only a faint resemblance. It's very comforting. I could listen to this voice all day. Oh wait, I have!

The music is reminding me (strangely enough) of Patsy Cline's great old songs. Especially "Alaska". Perhaps it's the slight swoop that Fenner puts on some of her words. The songs are catchy without being too poppy. The lyrics are meaningful.

"Linden Trees" is a great song that feels like home. It will stick with you.

Fenner is so unique that I really think she could take mainstream radio by a storm. I know if I heard this voice coming out of my radio I'd call and demand to know who it is. I liked this CD with the first note, but it's grown more with each listen. Give her a spin, you won't regret it. And you can say you were one of those who knew her when.
