 "From the Dark"
by Jennifer Parsignault

a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

After an acoustic ep we now have a fresh album from Jennifer Parsignault. Her trademark lush sound and ethereal vocals are retained. “Orbit Again” is a hopeful and sweet opener. There are shades of Enya in the pretty, layered “On the Outside”. Parsignault sings as wonderfully as she did on her previous cd ”Oh, My”. The reflective lyrics sit well with the gorgeous melody.

“September Winter” is a piano-led song. Parsignault sings of being in the dark season, trying to look forward.

“I’m watching winter pass me by
In a moment, in a heartbeat
In a lifetime, don’t ask why
Just believe in all the miracles in your life”
...she sings making it another song of hope.

The mysterious-sounding “Fragile” adds to the album’s charm. Its sound is very late eighties, but in a good way.

“Back Home” is a Celtic-tinged thing of beauty. Parsignault’s voice sounds alike Kate Bush here, which is always a great thing.

“From the Dark” is a thing of light despite the title.
