a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
Mairee Sioux’s debut album is an enchanting nature-evoking thing.
She sometimes recalls a less precious Joanna Newsom and guest Gentle Thunder’s redwood flute adds a distinctive
nature to her sound.
“Buried in Teeth” is haunting and celestial like an old Joni Mitchell song.
“Wild Eyes” is gentle and sweet and the flute really give sit a unique touch.
Sioux’s guitar playing is exceptional here.
“Two Tongues” reminds us of our ties to the past as Sioux poetically sings of her ancestors.
You won’t hear a record like this anywhere else. These songs are just lovely and this record is one of the years best.
