a Review by Amy Producer of Collected Sounds
My first impression from the photo on the cover is that she reminds me of a very young punked out Sarah McLachlan circa 1989. Cute. I mean that in the best way possible. If you know me at all you'll know any comparison to Sarah M is indeed a good thing coming from me.
That's where the comparisons to Sarah stop however. Elite's music really couldn't be much different. But it's still great.
These songs are well written both in melody and lyric. Very endearing. Especially to an old 80s gal like myself. There's definitely something about the production that rings 80s alterna-pop to me. Between the synthesizer's prominent part and the danceable drum line I'm enjoying it greatly.
He voice is also very appealing and is a great match for the music.
Today my favorite track is "4 Worse or 4 Better". It makes me want to get up and shake it all Molly-Ringwald-in-"Breakfast Club" style.
I also like "Don't You Wanna Be in Love with Me?" which I can imagine being played on the radio and that would be a lovely thing.
But really all these songs are a blast.
Now don't think I am dissing her in anyway, the songs do still sound fresh and that's a very hard thing to do when you're using a genre and style that was popular 20 years ago. So I applaud her. This record is going in my personal regular rotation.
