a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
The Big Eyes family Players is an ensemble lead by James Green and David Jaycock.
This lengthy opus sees them aided by amongst others, James Yorkston, Suzy Mangion, Rachel Grimes and Jeremy Barnes.
I’m not sure what to call this, it’s folk but it has its jazzy and poppy moments.
This is what the word eclectic was invented for.
A tribute to classical composer Gorecki rubs shoulders with sea shanties.
Still this is not weirdness for its own sake, but music for the open-minded.
It’s mostly instrumental but James Yorkston’s singing could bring tears to anyone’s eyes.
His lead on “Sunday Jacket” is sublime.
In all this is a remarkable album.
