Doppelganger
by Cynthia Lin

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

I have reviewed Cynthia Lin's previous work (see link in sidebar). I don't recall this about her first release, but her voice is really sweet, almost cutesy. It's perfect for the song Skipping in NYC as is a cute song about realizing you're in love.

I remember her previous album being really folksy. This is more pop I guess. It's very melodic. These songs almost have a theatrical feel (now, Lin fans, don't go all getting mad at me. Theatrical is not bad in my mind. It does not mean hysterical, it means it sounds like show tunes). Perhaps it's the horns, as on the title track, Doppelganger.

Nice guitar on Water Torture which is also enhanced by a lovely string arrangement.

I will admit, I was not smitten with this upon first listen. I'm glad I played it again as I am enjoying it more now. Especially glad I used headphones. It's nice to hear all the little intricacies you don't hear when it's on low.

Her lyrics are clever and sweet and the music matches, as does her voice. This is a nice package.

I like the artwork. At first it just looks like an ink blot. Then when you look you see that it's a person singing into a microphone and the sound coming out the other end. At least that's what I see…maybe it IS in inkblot and that says something about me!
