The Disconnection Carina Round "The Disconnection"
by Carina Round

a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell

Carina Round's new album has a distorted, spooky picture of Carina on the cover. The music is far more accessible, but carries a quiet menace. Round has matured and developed since her debut.

Opener "Shoot" is a high density track that allows Round to use her impressive voice to its full power.

"Into My Blood" describes love as an intense obsession. "I'll wait all my life just for the rush, the passing of fire into my blood" she sings. The songs powerful surge backs her words up. It sounds like a classic already.

"Lacuna" takes the temp down, but maintains the intensity. Round makes a splendid impression as a jazzy chanteuse too.

"Motel 74" is bluesy and sparse. Round sings like PJ Harvey's sister and the lyric details a passionate affair.

"Sit Tight" goes from pastoral folk to Waitsian blues.

"The Disconnection" is an essential album, one of the years best.
