a Review by Amy Producer of Collected Sounds
Amy Martin's most recent CD, Deliverance has a decidedly bluegrass feel.
There's a very old time vibe to her songs, at least for me. They're about people who seem to have lived a long time ago in a simpler time. I suppose some folks (and you know they call themselves "folks") still live like that. But being a city girl, it seems old time to me. It's refreshing and a bit sad too.
Her lyrics are poetically well written and easily form mental images:
"Her eyes like two diamonds they shone
Her heart swiftly beat and filled with blood her chilly cheek"
- From "Deliverance"
"Day of Reckoning" is pretty with a sad feeling.
Martin's voice is perfect for this style of music. It's pretty, clear and can be strong and mournful too.
The recording makes me feel a bit like I'm at camp or at least camping in the woods and singing around a campfire. Especially "Born in the Country". It's certainly not written from a city person's perspective, so I guess I can't relate to it, personally. But it's still cool to listen to and pretend.
