a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds
With a couple of exceptions it seems a lot of the music I've gotten lately is sort of Alt country/ Americana. So I'm sort of feeling like all the musicians are blending into one. So I'm going to concentrate on this one and put the others aside for now.
I went to her website to learn more about here. Why why why would a person have their whole website be in a pop up? If anyone can make me understand this I will be forever grateful to you.
I'm going to try not to hold this again the artist because I have no idea how much input she had in her own website design. So I am giving her the benefit of the doubt.
I do like the music. Her background is varied. Blues, country, punk, grunge and the result is a really cool 'Americana with an edge' feel.
Her voice is a perfect match for this style and the musicians are talented and sound great together.
The songwriting is interesting and melodic without being mainstream sounding.
I can't honestly say they're all the unique, but maybe I would feel differently if this were the only genre I listened to. I would have a better frame of reference. For example, I do not think that Charlotte Martin and Tori Amos are all that similar; whereas people who don't listen to them both a lot, think they are identical.
No Surprise is a good twangy, haunting ballad.
I also like Devil Don't Remember My Name. It's a nice upbeat number that makes me want to move.
Bed That I Made is a nice catchy waltz. I love waltzes.
This is not exactly my absolute favorite genre, but I do like it on occasion and this is an example of it done quite well.
…and is it just me, or does the picture on the cover look a little like Ali Larter…you know from 'Heroes'? The other photos on her site look nothing like that to me.
