a Review by Amy - Producer of Collected Sounds
Brenda Weiler is the most recent addition to the Virt Records line up and this is her first CD released through them, though this is her fifth CD.
Weiler's voice is soft and sweet and is very comforting. The music is as well. Her earlier stuff (though I must confess I only own her very first release) was a bit folkier. While this is also folky, there is more of a mainstream pop feel (and I don't mean teen pop, but I do mean a little more accessible). There's more here than she and her guitar.
The songwriting style reminded me a little of Sarah Harmer's (which is fabulous!). The songs are lyrically interesting and well written and the melodies part haunting, part pop and entirely lovely.
"Scatter" stands out because it has a bit of a driving beat.
"Honolulu, Minnesota" is a beautiful duet with Darren Jackson (who wrote the song and also co-produced the CD).
"Medicine" might be my favorite track on the CD. It's very radio friendly while still being much better than most songs currently played on the radio.
I liked this CD immediately, but it has grown on me more and more with each listen. It's beautiful. Get it now, you won't regret it!
