a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
This is a reissue of the Changelings long out of print
debut. Their last album "Astronomica" was an ethereal
masterpiece. This is equally stunning.
Similarities with Dead Can Dance can be found but this
band has their own identity.
Singer Regeana Morris marvel of a voice makes them
truly special. The varied instrumentation also makes
them stand out.
"Season of Mist" mixes
classical-sounding music with more modern sounds.
Morris' siren-song bewitches.
"Earthquake at Versailles" veers towards Middle
Eastern sounds. Morris sounds a lot like Lisa Gerrard
on this track.
"Solitude" is touching and restrained.
"11:59 PM October 30" is a suitably creepy Halloween
song. Siouxsie would have loved to have written it.
The cover of Velvet Underground's "Sunday Morning" is
lovely and puts the emphasis on the paranoid lyrics.
The Changelings' debut is no less thrilling than their
later records so that makes it very special.
